Delivering more community projects

Looe Shedders exists to bring people together through handson making, shared skills, and purposeful activity. Over the past few years, our members have quietly delivered a growing number of community projects. Each one designed to make a positive difference for local people, charities and community groups. These projects do more than produce useful items. They build confidence, reduce isolation, and give members the chance to contribute their time and skills to something that matters.

What we’ve delivered so far

Community Repairs & Restorations We’ve helped local organisations by repairing benches, restoring donated tools, and giving new life to items that would otherwise be thrown away. These small acts of care help keep community spaces welcoming and accessible. Garden & Outdoor Improvements From building raised beds to crafting planters and outdoor seating, our members have supported community gardens, wellbeing spaces, and local initiatives that encourage people to spend time outdoors. Helping Individuals in Need When a group in the community needs a practical solution, a simple repair or a custom-made item — our members step in. These oneoff projects often make a big difference to someone’s daily life. Skills Sharing & Learning Many of our projects double as training opportunities. Members learn new techniques, try new tools, and pass on their knowledge to others. Every project strengthens the skills base of the Shed.

Why these projects matter

They connect people who might otherwise feel isolated They give members a sense of purpose and achievement They support local organisations with limited resources They demonstrate the value of practical skills in modern community life They show what can be achieved when people work together

With our new home, we can do even more

Our move to Sclerder Abbey will allow us to expand the scale and ambition of our community projects. With dedicated workshop space, better tools and room for training, we’ll be able to support more groups, respond to more requests and involve more members in meaningful activity.
