Supporting members in developing new skills

At Looe Shedders, developing new skills isn’t an add‑on to what we do; it’s at the heart of every activity. Whether someone is picking up a tool for the first time or building on years of experience, our Shed provides a safe, friendly space where learning happens naturally through shared projects, curiosity, and encouragement. Our move to Sclerder Abbey will give us the room, facilities, and stability to expand this even further — opening the door to structured training, new equipment, and more opportunities for members to grow.

How we help members build skills

• Hands‑on workshops Members learn practical skills through real projects — woodworking, repairs, crafting, upcycling, and more. Every session offers a chance to try something new. • Peer‑to‑peer learning Experienced members pass on their knowledge informally, helping others gain confidence with tools, materials, and techniques. No pressure, no tests — just shared experience. • Safe, supported environment We prioritise safety and good practice. Members learn how to use tools correctly, maintain equipment, and work in a way that supports wellbeing. • Growing confidence Skill development isn’t only about tools. Members build confidence, problem‑solving abilities, teamwork, and a sense of achievement that carries into everyday life. • Space to experiment With our new home, we’ll have dedicated areas for trying new crafts, exploring new materials, and developing training sessions tailored to members’ interests.
